EVACUATION ALERT WEST OF GRAND FORKS DUE TO CROOK LAKE WILDFIRE

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) Emergency Operations Centre has been activated to a level 2 due to the Crook Lake Wildfire (N62608) 6 km Northwest of the City of Grand Forks, B.C on Highway 3 near Willow Rd and Danshin Village Rd. The fire is estimated at 2 hectares in size and is now listed as “Being Held”.
An Evacuation Alert is in place for 20 properties on Willow Rd. and Danshin Village Rd.
Highway 3 remains closed at this time; a detour is available through Willow Rd. Continue to check Drive B.C. for further updates.
BC Wildfire along with local fire department personnel responded to the incident. Crews have left for the evening and will return to the site tomorrow morning to continue with mop-up operations.
Residents are encouraged to avoid the area and remain vigilant as debris may become dislodged and roll toward the highway. Smoke may be visible, however, based on fuel and weather conditions, the fire is projected to remain within the control line.
“This was a very fast-moving and dynamic situation,” says Mark Stephens, EOC Director. “We are grateful for the coordinated efforts from all responding agencies, and we thank the public for listening to our emergency personnel and evacuating the area when asked.”

EVACUATION ORDER AND ALERTS RESCINDED FOR BROWN ROAD AND TEXAS AND ENGLISH POINTS

WHEREAS a state of local emergency was declared in relation Spaulding Creek Wildfire in Electoral Area C/Christina Lake in the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary on September 29, 2024;
AND WHEREAS this Spaulding creek Wildfire emergency no longer requires the prompt coordination of action or the special regulation of persons or property to protect the health, safety or well-being of persons or the safety of property or of objects or sites of heritage value;
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED pursuant to Section 97 of the Emergency and Disaster Management Act that a declaration of a state of local emergency in Electoral Area C/Christina Lake in the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary is cancelled effective the above date at 8:00 PM.

The State of Local Emergency remains in effect. All other Evacuation Orders and Alerts remain in effect.

If a subsequent evacuation is necessary, a new order will be made.

Evacuations are proceeding around Brown Rd. in Christina Lake in response to the Spaulding Cr. wildfire #N62579. Official evacuation information will be available here momentarily, but if you have been evacuated or feel unsafe, please head to the parking lot of Christina Lake Community Centre located at 90 Park Rd, Christina Lake, B.C. Please wait in your cars in the parking lot until Emergency Support Services volunteers arrive to open the reception centre. ETA 5:30 PM PDT.

An EVACUATION ORDER HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR PROPERTIES AROUND BROWN RD., KENSINGTON RD., AND CAITLIN RD. as well as an Evacuation Alert for Texas and English Points in Electoral Area C/ Christina Lake, approximately 7km north of Christina Lake Community Hall.

Under the advice by the BC Wildfire Service, the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has been advised that the potential threat of Wildfire in Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks near the City of Grand Forks has diminished at this time.

The Evacuation Alert, is therefore, rescinded for the properties described here.

Under the advice by the BC Wildfire Service, the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has been advised that the potential threat of Wildfire in Electoral Area D/ Grand Forks area has diminished at this time.

The Evacuation Order, pursuant to Section 10(1)(h) of the Emergency Program Act, for the properties described in the attached maps and address lists, has therefore, been rescinded to EVACUATION ALERT.

EVACUATION ORDER West of Grand Forks Due to Goosmus Wildfire

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) has been activated to a level 3 due to the Goosmus Wildfire south of Danville in Washington State. The fire is moving north toward the US/Canada border. Ember showers are occurring the Sleepy Hollow area of RDKB Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks.

Tactical evacuations are currently in progress along Highway 3, as well as west of Highway 41, south of Highway 3, and along the west side of Highway 3 from Sleepy Hollow Road to Phoenix Road.

Red Cross emergency support services will be opening a reception centre at the Grand Forks Arena.

“This is a very fast moving and developing situation,” says Mark Stephens, EOC Director. “We ask everyone to stay vigilant and to keep checking the RDKB website for information.”

Evacuated residents are to stay in their vehicles until the reception centre is opened, likely within the hour.

EVACUATION ALERT RESCIND

August 6, 2024
2:00 PM PDT

Trail—The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary is rescinding the evacuation alert for five (5) properties west of Carmi (Wilkinson Creek Area) based on advice from the BC Wildfire Service. The Service reports that the fire is being held and is expected to remain remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary.

“EOC staff would like to thank the local residents for their preparedness and for respecting the crews work on the ground and in the air. We know this was a stressful time for residents, and we are happy to rescind the alert with a positive outcome,” says Mark Stephens, EOC Director.

The Lower Campbell Creek Wildfire (K51472) is currently 223 hectares.

The RDKB will continue to monitor the situation and update citizens should conditions change.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant as we continue to experience warm temperatures.

FIVE PROPERTIES WEST OF CARMI ARE PLACED ON EVACUATION ALERT


EOC Wildfire update: Wednesday, 24 July 2024. 10:30 pm

At the request of the BC Wildfire Service, the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) has placed FIVE properties in AREA E/WEST BOUNDARY on EVACUATION ALERT due to increased fire activity (K51472) West of CARMI.

The evacuation alert area applies to the following FIVE addresses:
75 Carmi Creek Forest Service Road
6645 Highway 33
145 Wilkinson Creek Forest Service Road
200 Wilkinson Creek Forest Service Road
380 Wilkinson Creek Forest Service Road

“We have issued this evacuation alert out of an abundance of caution on the advice of BC Wildfire service,” said RDKB’s emergency manager and EOC director Mark Stephens.

Residents on evacuation alert should prepare for the possibility of an evacuation order by doing the following:
Residents are asked to register for the RDKB Emergency Alerting System – Voyent Alert – on the RDKB’s emergency website https://emergency.rdkb.com/
If an order is issued, residents must leave their homes immediately.
Residents are advised to gather their essential items together in advance: The 5 P’s (People, Pets, Prescriptions, Papers and Photos).
They should also prepare to move any disabled persons and/or children.
The RDKB will continue to update the public as new information is available.
