RDKB Rescinds Evacuation Alerts across the region

The RDKB regional emergency operations centre (EOC) has rescinded all remaining evacuation alerts across the regional district. This applies to 47 addresses in the Village of Midway and 550 addresses across the rest of the region.

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has been advised that the potential threat of flooding affecting the following Operational Divisions, that were established during the Beaver creek Flooding Event, has diminished at this time see attached maps
Zone #59 -  Fruitvale Beaver Street - Laurier Avenue- Main Street - 16 Addresses
Zone #53 - Area A Kenny Road - 1 Address

The Evacuation Alert has therefore been rescinded.

Evacuation Order placed on six addresses in Manly Meadows

The RDKB regional emergency operations centre (EOC) has placed six properties in Manly Meadows in Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks on Evacuation Order.

“The Evacuation Order is being issued due to the river cutting off access to the six properties,” said Mark Stephens, RDKB EOC Director.

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has been advised that the potential threat of flooding affecting two areas, including 52 addresses, in the City of Grand Forks has diminished at this time (see attached maps and address lists). The Evacuation Alert has therefore been rescinded.
At this time, no properties remain on Evacuation Alert in the City of Grand Forks.

Evacuation Order Rescind, Alert Remains in Place for 32 Properties on 12th St. and 2 Properties on 59th Ave, Grand Forks

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has been advised that the the potential threat of flooding affecting 32 properties on 12th Street and 2 properties on 59th Avenue (Johnson’s Flats Area) within the City of Grand Forks has diminished at this time.

The Evacuation Order, pursuant to Section 10(1)(h) of the Emergency Program Act, to evacuate these areas has, therefore been rescinded. The properties remain on Evacuation Alert. In the event that conditions change an Evacuation Order may be re-issued and the evacuation process will re-commence.

Evacuation Order for 1 Property in Evacuation Zone 88 - Gilpin Rd. Area

The RDKB has been advised of the imminent danger of flooding to the life and property of persons resident or present in Electoral Area ‘D’/Rural Grand Forks Evacuation Zone 88 - Gilpin Road Area. Based on this information an order, pursuant to Section 10(1)(h) of the Emergency Program Act, to evacuate these areas has been authorized in the interest of life safety. Residents are required to leave the affected areas immediately and vacate the area by using local roads.

Evacuation Alert Issued for 16 Properties in Village of Fruitvale and 1 Property in Electoral Area A

Due to the potential danger that may arise from flooding, we have issued an Evacuation Alert for 16 properties in Evacuation Zone 59 Fruitvale Beaver Street/Laurier Avenue/Main Street and 1 property in Zone 53 Area A Kenny Rd.

At this time residents are not required to evacuate, however, people resident or present within the areas identified above are requested to prepare to leave the area with very short notice. This alert may be followed by an immediate order to evacuate should conditions worsen.

Evacuation Order for 6 Properties in Zone 89 Hwy 3/Gilpin Cr. FSR/Nursery Rd and Zone 90 South of Grand Forks Airport

EVACUATION ORDER - Manly Meadows - State of Local Emergency Still in Effect

An Evacuation Order has been issued for Manly Meadows in rural Grand Forks/Electoral Area D, effective as of May 4, 2023 at 12 p.m. because of rising river levels. EOC officials will be delivering Evacuation Orders to residents at the affected properties. 
The evacuation order applies to approximately 8 addressed properties.

“We have issued this Evacuation Order as current modeling shows river levels will reach our flood response plan trigger point overnight and we wish to give residents time to evacuate during daylight hours,” says Mark Stephens, RDKB’s emergency manager and EOC Director. 
Emergency Support Services will be provided to those affected through our partners at the Canadian Red Cross. 
The public is advised to exercise caution and stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and creeks and potentially unstable riverbanks. They are also requested to report any woody debris and log jams that have been mobilised during the high-streamflow period to FrontCounter BC.

RDKB Issues State of Local Emergency for Electoral Area D and Evacuation Order for South Johnson Flats

Grand Forks Issues Evacuation Alert for 12th Street in Johnson Flats

A State of Local Emergency and an Evacuation Order have been issued by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary Regional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) for South Johnson Flats in rural Grand Forks/Electoral Area D, effective as of May 3, 2023 at 5 p.m. because of anticipated rising river levels overnight. The City of Grand Forks has requested an Evacuation Alert for 12th Street in Johnson Flats.

An evacuation order is now in effect for approximately 10 addressed properties. The evacuation alert applies to 34 addresses.

Evacuation orders will be delivered to each household by emergency personnel.

RDKB Issues Evacuation Alert –
South Johnson Flats and Manly Meadows, Grand Forks

An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary Regional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) for South Johnson Flats and Manly Meadows in rural Grand Forks, effective as of May 3, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. due to the possibility of flooding.

This Evacuation Alert is in place to prepare residents to evacuate their premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an Evacuation Order; however, they may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.  

“The Regional Emergency Operations Centre is issuing these alerts as weather models are showing that rivers will continue to rise,” says Mark Stephens, RDKB’s emergency manager and EOC Director. “We encourage residents to stay up to date by checking official sources for information and to sign up for our evacuation alert system.”

The public is advised to exercise caution and stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and creeks and potentially unstable riverbanks. They are also requested to report any woody debris and log jams that have been mobilised during the high-streamflow period to FrontCounter BC.

What You Should Do:

  • Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area, should an Evacuation Order be issued while separated.
  • Pack essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g., insurance, credit, and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents or pets, and, if time and space permits, keepsakes for quick departure.
  • Make arrangements to stay with family or friends (if possible).
  • Prepare to move disabled persons, children and/or neighbours, if assistance is needed.
  • Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area (if possible).
  • Arrange transportation for all your household.
  • Fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles.
  • Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible.
  • Monitor for information on a potential Evacuation Order and location of Reception Centres.
